Factors that contribute to the capacity of an emergency room There are various factors which determine the number of patients served in an emergency room per day. One of them is the number of doctors or health assistants in the emergency room. A high number or rather adequate number of medical assistants increases the number of patients served per day. This is because limited time is taken in serving the patients, thereby creating much time to attend to other patients (Jarvis 2016). On the other hand, if at all the medical assistants are less, the workload would definitely increase thereby reducing the number of patients served per day. Another factor is the availability of medical resources. For instance, if at all there are fewer beds in the emergency room, then it means fewer patients will have to be attended to at a time. The availability of beds determines the capacity of patients in the emergency room at certain intervals. The higher number of beds makes it easier for many patients to be attended to at a time. This reduces the number of patients who have to wait for the bed discharge before being attended to. On the other hand, fewer beds reduce the number of patients being attended to per day.
