The study comprised forty-nine young participants, 34 male, and 15 female participants.
There were twenty-two non-Hispanic white, fifteen non-Hispanic African Americans,
four Hispanic Asians, and two non-Hispanic multiracials. Twenty-five of the participants
were 4-year University students; nine were graduate students, one high school student,
eleven nonstudents, and nine college students. There were 29, 18, and 2 participants aged
between 18-20, 21-24, and 25-28, respectively. There were 22, 12, 7, and 8 nonusers,
exclusive e-cigarette vapers, exclusive cigarette smokers, and dual users.
2. Describe each of the following study domains:
a. Positive Reinforcement
Participants stated feeling positive effects likes sensorimotor experience, taste,
and stimulation after using e-cigarettes.
b. Social Benefits
Participants were noted to have numerous prospective interpersonal advantages.
These effects were coded as social facilitation and social impression. Also, it was
noted that there were additional themes of influence on other persons and
convenience. Some e-cigarette users considered vaping to be more social, unlike
traditional smoking.
