Running head: NATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION PLAN National Infrastructure Protection Plan Name Tutor Institution Course Date 1 NATIONAL INFRASTRUTURE PROTECTION PLAN National Infrastructure Protection Plan and Risk Management Introduction Risks in our present society may occur due to a combination of both human-made and natural hazards. These hazardous factors include terrorism, natural catastrophes or accidents. The critical infrastructure and key resources (CIKR) are also vulnerable to these factors. Thus, the government of USA came up with the National infrastructure protection plan whose pillars are to prevent the calamities that may cause the loss of lives and managing the factors that may disrupt the US as well as the global economy. The NIPP framework cites risk-informed prevention activities which enable the government to manage and reduce the serious risks that may affect the infrastructure sector (Chertoff, 2009). NIPP and risk management framework The main goal of the NIPP is to create a safer and more resilient environment for Americans by avoiding, deterring, counteracting or moderating the impacts of deliberate actions of terrorists to distort, weaken or take advantage of features of national CIKR. It also aims to reinforce preparedness of the country, increase time response and recovery of CIKR in cases of terrorists’ attacks, national catastrophes or any human-made occurrences.
