Running Head: DNA EXTRACTION DNA Extraction NAME COURSE NAME DATE DNA Extraction Running Head: DNA EXTRACTION 1 Abstract DNA extraction is a scientific process which is utilized in several areas from health, to agriculture and forensics. The process of purification can be critical for genetic testing and forensics. There are several methods such as organic extraction and extracellular extraction. The importance of these processes is to obtain uncontaminated DNA which can be used for further studies. This experiment focuses on DNA extraction using solution and a centrifuge in order to understand the process and obtain uncontaminated DNA. Introduction Deoxyribonucleic acid is also known as DNA is one of the most important proteins found in humans, animals, and any living things. DNA extraction is a process in which the DNA is broken down from proteins, membranes and other cellular materials (Elkins, 2013). DNA is found in cells wrapped in several proteins and membranes and because of this, an extraction process must occur to isolate the DNA molecule. The purpose of DNA extraction can be critical in several studies such as forensics and medicine. It has also been used to conduct surveys in soil. Studies show that DNA extraction utilizing methods such as extracellular extraction yields high quality DNA data ( Zinger et al., 2016). Extraction can be done in several different ways, in this lab the process used will be described. Though there are several different it is importa ...
