The Relations

A film director is someone who is in charge of a film and tells the actors how to play their part. In

order words, the film director’s main responsibility is to transform the script into the actual movie. In

Nutty Professor, Tom Shadyac’s role is slightly more complicated than in other movies. In the particular

scene called The Relations, Eddie Murphy is playing five characters at the dinner table. This means

Shadier must ensure that the Murphy is not using the same or confusing facial expressions, tone, and

personalities with each individual character.

is the production designer. His role in this scene was to give the viewer the visual feel of that moment.

Lighting plays a major part in a movie’s mood. In this scene, the lighting is greatly needed. It

helps the audience get an enhancement of the actors. In the scene, Relations, the lighting really

magnifies how old the grandmother is. This is extremely important because it shows how great the

make-up is and how rich it is in detail. The lighting of a movie is more significant than most people think.
