Parkinson's Disease Discussion Paper 2
Parkinson's Disease Discussion Paper
The four most significant concepts from the video is the research on what causes
Huntington’s finding a cure for Huntington’s and what can be done to improve the affects and
how to live with this disease. Several researchers have found the starting point of Huntington’s
whether is it genetically pass through families or from living in a certain part of the world, or
does it come from the different types of environmental toxins. In the past it was very unlikely
that Parkinson disease could be pass genetically to different family members however, today it
has become genetically incline. The genetic component of Parkinson's has also been established
that genetics was more difficult than they believed. Scientists have determined there is no
particular gene that causes Parkinson’s it could be one gene in one family and another type of
gene in another family (WGBH Educational Foundation, 1195-2011). Environmental factors and
do they have an influence on disease. After discovering the toxin MPTP a compound found in a
common pesticide could induce Parkinson's virtually overnight, scientists believed this toxin is
one of the causes of this disease. Later they discovered that the toxin only supplied a small
amount, but there were other pesticide exposures that are the leading suspect in a large number of
Parkinson's cases. There are six different genes that cause Parkinson’s and researcher have found
the LRRK- 2 gene, which has made it possible for Parkinson’s to be trace through whole
populations. Once the researches had determined the LRRK-2 gene it was time for them to come
up with a drug that will help to open the doorway and cure Parkinson’s disease. However, until a
cure is found individuals with Parkinson’s have to find ways to deal and live with this disease.
Parkinson’s disease is progressive and at this point is incurable and the two challenges in
finding a cure or knowing exactly what causes Parkinson’s. In order to pinpointing a starting
