IP ADDRESS IN CONFLICTS AND DHCP 2
Research IP addressing with regard to conflicts and DHCP, and use the following questions as a
guideline for your paper: If two hosts in a network are assigned the same IP addresses, what will
happen? Explain. How can an improperly configured DHCP contribute to this type of problem? In your
own words, how would you describe the DHCP configuration parameter that is used to reserve IP
addresses for hosts in a network?
The DHCP is known as the Dynamic Host Control Protocol which assigns an IP address, Subnet
and also the Gateway to the computer on a local area network. The IP address is a unique number
which is given to every computer on network because two computers cannot share or use the
same IP address. Static IP address is defined as an IP address which is not assigned by the DHCP
but it is an address which has been manually set up on a computer. The DHCP does not
recognize well the IP address that has been assigned statically and does not even recognize
whether the IP address is assigned and it might end up easily delivering the IP address via DHCP
which is the same as the one that has been assigned statistically.
The IP address conflict occurs when two computers on Local Area Network (LAN) or even
Internet have been assigned with the similar IP address. Certainly, when the two computers have
the same IP address, there is an IP address conflict and both of the computers cannot connect to
the internet. This means that if the two hosts within a network are assigned with the same IP
address, what happens is that the computers are unable to connect because the DHCP does not
allow two computers to have one IP address in the system. The recognition of IP address
conflicts on the Microsoft Windows computers illustrates the issues of attempting to set a fixed
IP address (static) which has been already active on local network and sends this message pop-up
error “ the static IP address configured is already in use on network please configure different IP
address”. The host cannot allow two computers to use same IP address and by this reason the
newer Microsoft Windows computers which have a Dynamic IP conflict sends back a balloon

Just what I needed. This document gave me a good start on tailoring my own answer.

Documents were of surprisingly high quality, and not like anything I’ve seen on other sites. Very impressed at how even a university level assignment was handled.
