Newton's Second Law Name: Group Members (if any): Instructions: We will be exploring Newton's 2nd Law (F=ma) with this lab. We are essentially creating a ramp for the car to go down. effect of changing the cars mass first. Then we will explore changing the cars acceleration down the ramp by raising it have pleanty of room to do this lab and are able to take accurate measurements. We will use how far the car travels at as a guage of the relative force that was on the car. Understand we are using some indirect measures of force and acc Outcomes: 1. Given a hot wheels car and track and several washers, students will show how changing the mass of the car affects the force the mass in motion. 2. Given a set of data, students will find the relationship between the mass of the car and the "force" by measuring the distance car travels. 3. Given several books, students will find the relationship between the height of the ramp (a) and the distance travelled (F). Materials: 1 1 6 3 1 Measuring device Hotwheels car Washers from centripetal force lab kit Books Hotwheels track Tape 1 Camera or phone to take a selfie with your setup. Safety Points: 1. Small parts are involved, keep them from small children or animals. 2. Don't leave them scattered on the floor, trip hazard. Procedure: Part 1: 1. Stack two of the books on top of one another. Secure the hot wheels track to the top of the books to create a ramp. Be su ends on a surface where the car can roll. 2. Mark a place on the ramp w ...
