Sonny’s blue by James Baldwin
A sonny’s Blues story is written in a narrative style. This story opens clearly with the
narrator reading about his younger brother who is named Sonny and had been caught in a heroin
bust. In this story the narrator goes bout explaining his day, being a teacher at his school in a
place named Harlem he feels difficult in forgetting the name Sonny (Baldwin 1). Sometimes the
narrator minds about the other boys in the class who simply do not have bright futures and are
too dependent on drugs just like Sonny, After class sessions he meets a friend of Sonny who
keeps him posted about what would lock him up and transform him into detox, but with all the
saying he will be let out and leaves alone.
In a view of point to the narrators theme of his story, it’s true that the narrator does not
write the story to Sonny. In a time when his daughter Grace died of polio, the narrator had an
idea of writing a letter to Sonny and then Sonny would write back and this happened over and
over. At this time, one is able to capture and understand how Sonny is related to the narrator, and
the issues are they are brothers (Baldwin 1) they kept the contact between them and when Sonny
free from jail, he went to live with the narrator and family. They usually shared a family dinner
which afterwards turns into a flashback about their lovely parents. The narrator seems to be
