EHR systems are electronic versions of patients medical history maintained by a provider and is made available to the relevant personnel upon request. EHR systems could be either cloud-based or client-server. Cloud-based EHR systems are patient’s electronic data and details stored on online servers to be accessed using only a computer with an internet connection. On the other hand client-server EHR systems stores data in the on-site using servers, hardware and software installed in a physician’s office (Koziol et al., 2015). This paper will discuss merits and demerits Cloud-Based EHR systems use as compared to traditional EHR systems such as Client-server. It also discusses the risks involved in using cloud-based systems. CLOUD-BASED EHR SYSTEMS BENEFITS Cloud-based EHR systems are more comfortable to implement since the EHR software is run on the website instead of computers. Patient records can be accessed on smartphones or tablets, which mean that bulky hardware or software cannot be installed.
