ORTHOPEDIC AND OTHER HEALTH IMPAIRMENT 2
Orthopedic and other Health Impairment
There are critical issues for students living with disabilities and other health conditions.
The challenge comes when schools have set standards of services that cater to people with no
disabilities. For example, students who use wheelchairs in school lack unique places to navigate
wheelchairs, especially on stairs. Students get the issue of finances because they use the extra
cash to cater to their needs. The needs also include buying medications to relieve the symptoms
such as pain and control the rising levels of some factors in the body (Mantey, 2017). Academic
requirements in school do not favor students with disabilities, and therefore they get challenges
with their grades due to their conditions.
The impact of disability on an individual comes when the person becomes dependent on
other people for performing certain things. The person becomes emotionally affected by seeing
other people of their age do something they cannot do because of their condition. The family
members become financially burdened because they incur the cost of taking care of them.
Society gets impacted when the community requires new and innovative measures to focus on
people with disabilities (Lara & de Los Pinos, (2017). Actions include getting interpreters for
the deaf and blind people to make them understand.
An ideal teacher for physical and health-related disabilities requires several skills more
than the regular teacher teaching people with no disabilities. The teacher should learn how to
create a perfect environment to cater to the needs of disabled people. A conducive and working
environment enables people with disabilities to understand. The management skill of student
behavior is essential because these people react differently due to their condition (Ediyanto,
Mulyadi, Supriatna, u& Kawai, (2018). Communication skills are equally important as these
people are different and require exceptional communication at all times.
