EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Madison Pharmaceutical is a pharmaceutical company which has built a strong
customer base in India and it plans to send an expatriate to Switzerland with the aim
of expanding its services there. Thus, the main idea of the report is to prepare a
cross-cultural training strategy for the employee.
INTRODUCTION
This paper seeks to give an insight into the benefit of cross-cultural training for an
expatriate who is going for an international assignment. In order for a successful
completion of this task it is necessary to prepare an appropriate training plan. The

main goal behind the training is for the expatriate to adjust easily to the new
environment in order to prevent culture shock and other anxieties. Cross-cultural
training has been seen as a very useful tool because it enables employees who have
been given international assignments to adjust easily to the culture of that
environment. It takes a lot of rigorous training and commitment by the expatriate if he
is to successfully complete the training exercise because it would involve him putting
a lot of effort into learning a culture that is quite different from his own.
In this paper we will be examining two different countries, India and Switzerland
which are very much distinct in terms of languages, physical structures, political and
socio-economic factors amongst other factors.

The goal of Madison Pharmaceutical is to provide necessary medicine to reduce the
strain of diseases in the region
The objective is to ensure steady supply of affordable medicine, both traditional and
modern medicine with great quality
THE PRODUCT AND THE POTENTIAL SIZE OF THE MARKET
Madison Pharmaceuticals products are: pain relievers, contraceptives, cough
medicines, bandages and vitamins. According to Urch Publishing, pharmaceutical
business in India is estimated to be worth $1trillion in 2014 (Reportlinker.com, 2014)
DEMAND TO JUSTIFY THE INTERNATIONALIZATION STRATEGY
The Swiss economy is one of the world leaders in pharmaceutical drugs with notable
example of Novartis which was ranked number two in 2010 (Reportlinker.com,
2014). Thus, Madison Pharmaceuticals hopes to attain a strong market share in
Switzerland upon its establishment. The expected length of expatriation is 2 years.
GENERAL VALUES OF INDIA
The ethnic groups are: Indo-Aryan, Dravidian, Mongoloid. The main languages are
Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada. There are mainly
Hindus, Muslims and little fraction of Christians. The population of India is around
1,220,800,359 as at July 2013 (Cia, 2014).
GENERAL VALUES OF SWITZERLAND
Their ethnic group is divided into the German, French, Italian, and Romansh each
with their various percentages. Their official language is German, French, Italian and
Romansh. They are mostly Roman Catholics. As at July 2013 they were estimated to
