Factors needed to critically analyze information sources
The broader perspective of Research methods includes set of rules and process cycle to be
followed. This process cycle is a research methodology of retrieving data, analyzing facts and
using it for personal, educational and organizational purposes upon which future researches
might be based on. Researchers and writers use already existing information and facts to
inductively or deductively create new information which is later used by future researches and so
the cycle goes on.
Critical analysis of a source from which specific information is retrieved has to be written by
some authentic writer or researches. Authenticity of the information can be deducted after
analyzing the credentials, competency and repute of the writer. It is also important to check if the
writer has written the source on the basis of personal opinions and wrote it on individual level or
it has some relative association with the any reputable organization. Second thing to check for
authenticity of the source is the date of publication of the source. Information basically is a
dynamic variable which keeps on varying on basis of international and national events or
advancement in technologies. It is equally possible that a source providing information about
computer application written in 1980 might be irrelevant in 2015 due to dynamic evolution of
newer information. Relevancy of published date of the article or source plays key role in
deciding its authenticity. Third factor to evaluate a source is whether it is addressed to the same
public which you are catering in your research or the public you are selected as your sample is
completely irrelevant from the one addressed in the source. Fourth factor is separating author’s
opinions from facts because facts are sometimes stiff and cannot be changed but opinions are
perspective of one individual deductive from human experiences and it may vary from person to
