The intermarriage between the two groups made it clear that the aboriginal problem will never end. This made the Austrian government adopt the assimilationist approach as opposed to its earlier policies of protection that saw to it that separated the indigenous people from the whites. This assimilation policy allowed the indigenous people to 'die out' through natural elimination, while the half-casts (those whose biological parents were from indigenous and white communities) were allowed to be assimilated into the whites community.
