THE ETHICAL DILEMMA OF FREE MARKET FOR COVID VACCINES 2
The Ethical Dilemma of Free Market for Covid-19 Vaccines
Overview of the pandemic situation
The coronavirus pandemic has brought into the world one of the most disruptive impacts
to the productive capacities of many economies of the world. According to the class reading
entitled The Plague, the magnitude of the Covid-19 is highly felt than that of the financial crisis
that hit global economies in 2008 (The Plague docx). Other than being a health crisis whereby it
has exceeded the capacity of the healthcare institutions, Covid-19 has taken a great toll on the
political, economic, and political aspects of all nations, and particularly the United States.
Notably, Covid-19 has struck the coordinated efforts and shared responsibilities of all agencies
that create a better environment for human survival. Ever before have nations suffered a great
economic downturn due to social distancing and self-isolation as they have during the Covid-19
crisis (The Plague docx). That means, people have to stay at home to avoid physical contact with
each other to avoid the spread of the virus.
Governments in various parts of the world are developing strategies to support the
upkeep of their citizens such as distributing food resources to them in their homes. In the United
States, for example, the newly elected president, Joe Biden has established a stimulus package
worth trillions of money to support the running of small business enterprises and the daily living
of unemployed folks who have attained the legal age to work (The Plague docx). However, this
solution is only meant to serve in the short run. As economies continue to shrink, governments
are collaborating with scientists to find a vaccine for the novel coronavirus. The question that
arises from these efforts concerns whether the creation of a free vaccine market is should be
created and which arguments can be raised in its favor and against.
Non-utilitarian arguments against vaccine market
