1 Rational Choice Theory and Social Disorganization Theory Name Institution Instructor Course Date 2 Crime remains a common problem in all societies. Over the centuries, various criminology theorists have attempted to explain criminal behavior. Why do people engage in crime? There are different theoretical perspectives to explaining crime including early theoretical perspectives and modern theoretical perspectives. Common among these crime theories lies the idea of subjective acceptability and objective availability of crime framework. Various existing criminology theories propose variables or predictors that causes criminal behavior among individuals. Using two criminology theories, this paper will explain how crime is something both acceptable and available to me. Rational choice theory One of the major crime theories that provide an explanation for criminal behavior is the rational choice theory (RCT). The rational choice theory dates back to the 18th century with the contributions of Cesare Beccaria (Tibbetts, 2018). Over the decades, many criminologists have expanded upon and stretched this theory to include other various perspectives. Rational choice theory can explain how crime is something acceptable to me.
