Andrew Jackson was born in 15
th
March, 1767 and died in June 8
th,
1845. He was the 17
th
President of the United States and his term was from 1829-1837. There are lots of controversies
on whether he was a hero or a villain. Andrew Jackson is seeing as a war hero during the
American Revolution up to the war of 1812. As part of his success, he was the first United States
president to originate from a low social background. Despite the few good deeds and major
achievements of Andrew Jackson, his traits best portray him to be a villain.
Andrew Jackson as the president showed great respect all the individual, economic and
political rights than all his predecessors before him. As the president, Andrew sought to increase
the number of offices for the directly elected members by the people. He also sought to restore
the economic system in order to protect the rights of the small producers.
His tyranny and villainy part is seen after the 1812 war when Native Americans asked the
federal government for their in claiming their territories. Despite the Supreme Court ruling,
Jackson defied the court’s ruling and went ahead to implement a removal policy which led to the
displacement of 90,000. That was a selfish tyrant and insensible move in accordance to
humanity.
Furthermore, Jackson went ahead and captures the state of South
Carolina, denouncing its nullification theories. He even threatened those who resisted having the
United States army based there so as to enforce the federal law. This act led to his breaking up
with his vice president. He started diminishing in his political career when he started to alienate
and collaborate with other politicians who did not respect him (Yomtov 2014).
Andrew Jackson led to the weakening of the national authority when took sides with the
states' rights arguments of Georgia when it was in the battle over the federal Indian policy.
