There are three principal actors, in this case, two CEOs and a junior manager. How does each of them view the situation facing them? What, if any, are the principal differences in their views of the situation? Jeff Depew, the young manager of the General Electric (GE), a company based in the United States, has been assigned the task of growing a relationship with Mitsubishi Electrics, a Japanese company. Jeff Depew saw this as a great opportunity for the company to flourish and to also impress their CEO, Jack Welch, who is strict when it comes to the performance of the tasks assigned to his managers. Jeff saw how the partnership between the GE and Mitsubishi would help them dominate the market globally, lead to increased sales and to make six of their eight lines of products to be leading in the world. The thought of partnering with the leading Japanese company made Jeff work towards winning Mitsubishi. Jack Welch, the GE CEO, entrusted Jeff Depew in making negotiations and to win the Mitsubishi influence and believed that his only task was to sign the contract.
