Digital Image Processing -Image Restoration (i) Geometric Corrections Objectives • To understand sources of errors in a digital image and how to correct them; -Systematic errors -Non systematic errors • Understand the image process from capture to info extraction/analysis. Introduction ➢ Digital image is subdivided into small equal-sized called picture elements or pixels representing the brightness of each area with a numeric value or digital number. ➢ Each pixel has a value assigned to it n corresponds to amount of EMR that was being emmited or reflected from that surface when the sensor collected the data ➢ Electro-optical sensors (spectro-radiometers) that provide digital images in several bands are complex optical and electronic devices (not covered in this module). Intro’ • A digital image is made by focusing the sensor on a particular earth surface. The photons emanating from this area are guided to the sensor by the optical system (a series of lenses) where some selection and filtering is carried out( e.g to select the desired wavelength or measurement • Then the photons incident on detector itself induce tiny electrical currents thro’ the photoelectric effect. 1 Intro’ • The resulting electrical is then amplified and transformed into a digital number (DN) by analogue to digital conversion. • The DN is proportional to the amount of energy in selected wavelength reaching the sensor • A dig. img therefore has millions of digital numb ...
