New Religious Movements
“New Religious Movements” are the set of newly evolved religious beliefs from the already
existing religions as a result of cultural, social or political movements, crisis or events. Divisions
and denominations in religions are also associated with this term because sects and
denominations also evolve from already established religions by diversified interpretations of the
beliefs. As a consequence of facing a crisis in gender-orientation, race discrimination or social
happenings in a particular class, that class associates their situations with religious backgrounds
and there are always greater possibilities of establishing or deducting newer religious logics from
their assumptions.
“New Religious Movements” deduce and formulate newer myths and narratives to justify the
cause of its establishment which majority of people would accept as it is without questioning the
authenticity of it. The sequential narratives and myths primarily answer the most important
questions in life which cannot be evaluated with any credentials like origins of humanity and life
and destination after death. The Myths in New Religious Movements are emphasized by merging
them with already existing religious beliefs to practice these myths in the form of worships and
rituals to demonstrate the originality of the newly evolved belief in newer formations. The
leadership is declared by announcing prophets who have highest moral authorities in the society
with previous historical association with the old religions so that people can believe the newer
religions to be truthful and authentic.
New religious movements are very organized and controlled systems who convey their messages
through non-traditional ways so that the people get fascinated by the processes and adopt the
cause and social and political movements of several types are also supported by these groups.

They also have goals to model the maximum population according to their own visionary future.
NRM are usually called Cults or Sects in West but they are also very proactive in countries like
Japan, Kenya and other Asian and African Countries. The challenge to the term is to comprehend
the time span when a NRM becomes an old religion and blends as truth because it is just the
matter of time when the newly evolved convictions turn old and merge as a whole.
