Hyatt-A successful hotel brand in the world
Hyatt is one of the famous hotels throughout North America, with the length of history for many
years. Nowadays, Hyatt is known as one of the famous hotel brands worldwide. When referring to
one of the famous hotel brands and satisfy most customers, "Hyatt" is probably the first name
mentioned. The hotel corporation has gone through many ups and downs and incidents to get such
a glorious success today, this hotel brand has to try and put a lot of effort to surpass its competitors
in the field of hotels. In this writing, I will show out the history of building process, brand identity,
brands, and the coverage of the hotel group in the world, in Viet Nam in particular.
First of all, some main information about the history of establishing the hotel. Hyatt was founded
by Jay Pritzker in 1957 when he purchased the Hyatt House motel adjacent to the Los Angeles
International Airport. Over the following decade, Jay Pritzker and his brother, Donald Pritzker,
working together with other Pritzker family business interests, grew the company into a North
American management and hotel ownership company, which became a public company in 1962.
In 1968, Hyatt International was formed and subsequently became a separate public company.
Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International Corporation were taken private by the Pritzker family
business interests in 1979 and 1982, respectively. On December 31, 2004, substantially all of the
hospitality assets owned by Pritzker family business interests, including Hyatt Corporation and
Hyatt International Corporation, were consolidated under a single entity, now Hyatt Hotels
Corporation. The following are the outstanding events of this group.
In 1969, Hyatt Regency Hong Kong becomes Hyatt’s first international location.
In 1972, always on the cutting edge of customer service, Hyatt opens a central reservations
office in Omaha, Nebraska-with a dedicated toll-free 800 number.
In 1980, Grand Hyatt New York and Park Hyatt Chicago open and add two iconic brands
to Hyatt's portfolio.
In 1987, Hyatt Gold Passport launches as Hyatt's loyalty program.
In 2006, The Hyatt Place brand is introduced in Lombard, Illinois. At the same time, Hyatt
purchases Summerfield Suites with an aim to expand into the extended stay market.
In 2007, the stylist Andaz brand debuts on Liverpool Street in London.
In 2009, Hyatt goes public on the NYSE, trading under the ticker symbol H.
In 2011, Hyatt Thrive launches as Hyatt's global corporate responsibility platform.
In 2012, Hyatt Summerfield Suites is rebranded as Hyatt House.
In 2015, The Hyatt Centric brand launches with its first location in Chicago offering
accessible, chic lodgings in prime city locations for the cosmopolitan traveler.
In 2016, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt becomes the 12th brand in Hyatt’s portfolio,
introducing guests to a whole new range of experiences.

In 2017, On March 1, World of Hyatt launches as a reimagined loyalty program designed
to deepen engagement with Hyatt’s most loyal guests. Guided by its purpose, Hyatt enters
the wellbeing space with acquisitions of Miraval and Exhale.
In 2018, The World of Hyatt Credit Card launches, rewarding members for how they live,
work and travel, including an industry-first Bonus Points fitness category. Hyatt completes
the acquisition of Two Roads Hospitality, expanding its hotel and resort portfolio with the
inclusion of the Alila, Destination, Joie de Vivre, and Thompson and Tommie brands.
Second of all, the invention and meaning of brand identity- Hyatt logo, which is the visualization
of the spirit, the core value of the hotel brand, and also the image ambassador for the hotel. The
color scheme of the Hyatt logo is a classic blue-white-red tricolor. The Hyatt dark blue inspires a
sense of calm and spiritual awareness along with feelings of trust, confidence and professionalism.
Red on the Hyatt logo is represented in a very light, but significant way a thin curve, representing
bridge between the brand and its customers, or between the Hyatt’s history and its future direction.
Red color here symbolizes energy, warmth and comfort, making the logo is look distinct and
modern. White color of the wordmark adds purity to the logo, provides contrast and represents
brand’s sophistication and success. The wordmark is executed in elegant custom font, which is
close to Optima. The typeface with its fine clean lines is one of the most recognizable in the
hospitality industry. In general, The Hyatt logo is clean and functional, with a contemporary
aesthetic, giving a classic, timeless feel that’s also modern, stylish, and versatile. It exudes brand’s
confidence and loyalty to its customers, and represents the high quality of everything Hyatt does.
Thirdly, Hyatt-branded properties have traditionally catered to upscale or business customers; its
properties are either full-service or boutique hotels. There are six main brands of Hyatt
Corporation such as Luxury, Flagship, Lifestyle, Resort, Wellbeing, and Midscale.
Luxury: Grand Hyatt hotels are large luxury hotels in major cities ranging from 350 to
1,500 rooms in size. They include expansive amounts of meeting space, upscale dining,
spa, and fitness facilities, and are doused in dramatic architecture. Park Hyatt hotels are
mid-sized, residential luxury hotels in cities considered premier destinations.
Flagship: Hyatt Regency is mid- to large-scale premium hotels intended for both leisure
and business travelers
Lifestyle: Hyatt Centric is a new, full-service lifestyle brand located in center-cities and
designed for business and leisure travelers. Andaz is an award-winning upscale/luxury
lifestyle brand
Resort: Hyatt Residence Club and Hyatt Resorts are timeshare properties with the same
service as the Hyatt brand
Wellbeing: Exhale Spa and Fitness, Miraval
Midscale: Hyatt Place and Hyatt House hotels are mid-sized limited-service hotels
catering to families as well as business travelers.
