A description of a scenario that illustrates the application of operant conditioning in your
life and explains how behavioral theory was applied to condition behavior in the scenario

In my early childhood, my mother brought me up with a key value for punctuality. Based
on operant condition, my mother ensured that the consequences of waking up late will influence
my behavior. Therefore, whenever I would wake up late or delay in attending school, she would
deduct my monthly allowance based on the period in which I was late. In the beginning, this
approach was not successful but when it was time to receive my monthly allowance, I felt the
disappointment of getting a lower amount. This motivated me to always plan my schedule and
ensure I was prompt in waking up and going to school. The thought of waking up late and
missing some early classes was no longer part of my objectives. The behavioral theory of
negative reinforcement through punishment of a reduced salary yielded required the results
(Cherry, 2019). The financial rewards anticipated at the end of the month were crucial
motivating factors that drove me to wake up early.
I embraced this behavior which has become part of my routine even in adulthood. These
acts have influenced my conduct at work, and my record shows a high level of punctuality. At
my workplace, my employer enforced a policy in which employees who delayed to work for 30
minutes would be deducted based on the period of absence. Some of the staff members who
frequently reported to work late found a hard time to adjust to these policies. The followed
repercussions were reduced salary at the end of the month, which was frustrating. However,
adhering to this workplace policy has been smooth for me since I am less likely to report late to
