While proponents hold the view that it has valid medical significance, opponents hold the contrary basing their arguments on health hazards associated with marijuana (Wang Heard & Roosevelt 2017). Nonetheless, the legalization of marijuana is continually pursued with California becoming the most recent state to legalize marijuana. This article aims at creating an in-depth analysis of the facts surrounding the legalization of marijuana, the reason why it should be legalized and the consequences associated with this. A recent study on Northwestern University established that marijuana users exhibit abnormality in brain structure accompanied by poor memory (Hopfer, 2014). The study explains that chronic abuse of marijuana results in brain alteration to resemble schizophrenia. Moreover, heavy and persistent use of cannabis by adolescents leads to impairments in neurocognitive abilities and IQ.
