HEMOGLOBIN A1C DIAGNOSIS TOOL FOR DIABETES • The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has diagnosis guidelines for the diagnosis and management of diabetes. • ADA recommends for the diagnosis of diabetes by measuring fasting plasma glucose and doing the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) (ADVANCE Staff, 2011). This is commonly followed by categorization of the type of diabetes by evaluating the threshold values. • The American Diagnosis Association added the hemoglobin A1c as a diagnostic tool of type two diabetes. • The threshold for diagnosis was set at an A1c of 6.5%.
