In the 21st century, the issue of how best to parent the child has remained a great concern to a significant number of parents. Some are wondering which type of parenting is good for them and as a result they find themselves incorporating both Free-range parenting and helicopter parenting. Though both of these forms are good and effective, it is obvious that one of them is better than the other. Before evaluating their effectiveness to understand why one is better than the other, let define what they are. According to Kiff et al. (251), helicopter parenting is also known as cosseting parenting. This form of parenting involves parents who pay strictly close attention to their children's' experiences, actions, and challenges, mostly at educational spheres. This form of parenting is labeled helicopter because, like a helicopter, parents ‘hover overhead,' overseeing each and every aspect of their children's life constantly. On the other hand, Skenazy (10) defines free-range childhood as the idea of bringing up children in the fortitude of motivating them to function with a certain level of independence, though with limited parental regulation, in accord of their maturity and with a logical acceptance of pragmatic personal risks.
