Robert Peel’s Standards of Policing The police should be organized, stable and efficient according to the standards of the military. The police should have an established structure of training and execution of duties. The police use military type of ranking which is one instance of being organized along military lines. Additionally, police recruits are trained at a police academy that will be put into practice when dealing with the community and the community as well. The police must be under the control of the government; the police department should be under the government in training, and management of the police should be under the supervision of the government. The absence of crime best proves the efficiency of the police; the role of the police is to prevent and contain crime, and therefore the elimination of crime should be the standard measure of the police’s efficiency. The dissemination of the news on crimes is essential in policing; the media acts as a stakeholder in policing in informing the police, the community, and the government on nature, means, and impacts of crimes (Garcia, 2015).
