Demographics of Homeless Population in the United States of America
There has been an increase in homelessness issues in the United States of America over
recent years. A more significant percentage of the homeless population in America represents the
Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. According to statics, almost half a million people
experience homelessness in America every night. Men are mostly affected by homelessness in
America as compared to women. In chapter 33 of class reading, many risk factors are related to
homelessness, ranging from physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, and
spiritual concerns. Medical reports from many hospitals indicate that most homeless people have
psychological problems like depression and posttraumatic stress disorder. This is a result of
prolonged usage of drugs and traumatic situations they experienced before becoming homeless.
Physiological concerns are also a greater part of the impact of homelessness. Homeless
individuals do not experience normal healthy living like others who have homes. Anxiety and
stress are their part of daily living which makes them mentally ill. Sociocultural concerns facing
the homeless population in the US include unaffordable housing and family violence. Many
Americans have lived on the streets due to expensive housing and frequent violence, especially
for married couples (Sermons et al., 2016). Covid-19 caused many employees' average income to
decrease; this affected many people who were evicted from their households due to failure to pay
rent.
Developmental risk factors facing the holes include failure to access proper and quality
healthcare, especially for children who have health problems. Children who are homeless are not
able to receive appropriate care like those who have homes. As a result, children suffer from
anxiety and depression, which persists even in their future life. Lack of jobs or income for daily
sustainability makes the homeless engage in social evils like crime and prostitution. Some of the
