Surname 1 Multiculturalism Name Professor Course Institution Date Surname 2 Multiculturalism The model of multiculturalism in the contemporary political philosophy and in political discourse is about understanding and responding to the challenge that are associated with the diversity of culture and religion. “Multicultural” is the term that is often used to characterize the diversity of a society but most importantly, it is focused on its governance use, in the context of the liberal democratic societies of the Western states. While multiculturalism has covered a wide range of prescriptive claims, its proponents reject the “melting pot” ideal, which expects the members of minority groups to be absorbed into the dominant culture, rather than maintaining their distinctive practices and identities. For immigrants, supporters of multiculturalism emphasize that the model is compatible with the immigrant integration into the society, because its policies offer reasonable terms for the integration of immigrants. Countries today are organized around cultural norms and language of the dominant cultural group that historically formed them. The members of minority groups face many obstacles in their pursuit of social practices in contrast to their dominant counterparts.
