In the case of Alice, the formation of a therapeutic relationship is paramount as a way of understanding her relationship issues. Alice is a family physician, and as such, she feels that she has the necessary skills that can allow her to cope up with life challenges among them being her marriage with Mike. In the institutioning of a therapeutic relationship I would assume the role of a counselor. I would be assuming the role of a counselor because I would be offering a second opinion to Alice as a professional counselor. Assuming the role of a counselor will dilute any form of resistance with Alice as my client.
