Running head: MULTIVARIATE METHOD STUDY REVIEW Multivariate Method Study Review Name Institution 1 MULTIVARIATE METHOD STUDY REVIEW 2 Multivariate Method Study Review The article “Maladaptive perfectionism as a mediator and moderator between adult attachment and depressive mood” by Wei, Mallinckrodt, Russell, and Abraham (2004) sought to establish the relationship between maladaptive perfectionism and adult attachment and depressive mood. The researchers collected survey data from 310 undergraduate students at a Midwestern university and used structural equation modeling to analyze it. They found that maladaptive perfectionism partially moderated the relationship between anxiety and depression while mediating attachment avoidance and depressive mood. The results of this research suggest that maladaptive perfectionism is both a mediator and a moderator between attachment and depression. The use of multivariate methods namely bootstrap and structural equation modeling was appropriate in this study hence producing results that are both highly reliable and valid as well. The study included four variables in a complex relationship with each other. From the diagrams provided showing the relationships established among them, the independent variables are attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance. These two independent variables affect depressive mood and maladaptive perfectionism (Wei et al., 2004). The dependent variables in the study are depressive mood and maladaptive ...
