They govern human behaviour and interactions to identify what is acceptable and desirable conduct. Despite a clear framework of ethical principles particularly in the workplace, various ethical dilemmas may arise that raise numerous questions particularly concerning consent and the lack of making decision making difficult. Overview & ethical issues in the scenario In the case study, we are introduced to JoEllen who is admitted to a local hospital after an overdose. Soon after admission, she becomes uncommunicative, and her situation continues to deteriorate rapidly. The first few hours after admission of such a patient is crucial and can be lifechanging. Thus, most hospitals have a set procedure on how to handle such cases including seeking expert advice from a toxicologist.
