The functions of norms are providing order as well as predictability to a community. Generally, people need approval; they need to belong, as well as those who fail to adhere to the norms will not be approved or may be outcast out of the group. This is how the society functions, not only with rules that are direct but even expectations. If people know what they should do they seem to adhere to it. Although other people tend to stay away from the group, the majority want to take part in the group. There are many social norms, but we will only discuss "shaking hands when you meet with someone." Shaking hands when you meet with someone Handshake refers to a short greeting where two individuals grasp each other's similar hands, mostly accompanied with short up as well as the downward movement of hands that are apprehended. The handshake is widely spread globally. Generally, the use of the right hand is deemed to as the proper etiquette. The customs which surrounds the handshakes are particular in accordance to cultures (Bevan and Stanton, 2015).
