Question 1: Referring to the current nurse staffing model being implemented, what factors play a vital
role?
Answer: The interviewer at this time will start to explain that the Nurse staffing model implemented at
the current hospital is influenced by patient complexity, acuity, or stability, number of admissions,
discharges, and transfers, professional nursing, and other staff skill level and expertise, and physical
space and layout of the nursing unit (ANA, 2019). More factors that affect the nurse staff model are
technical support and other resources (ANA, 2019).
Influence: The factors that the interviewer responded with help me determine what factors are used to
base the nursing staff model on. It also provides me helpful insight to help determine If the nurse staff
model is enough to meet the demands of the hospital or facility. The factors come into play when
determining if the number of employed staff (nurses) meets the patient’s overall needs by providing
safe and quality patient care. The factor will also help me determine the overall safety and quality of the
healthcare facility and staff.
Question 2: When did you first start implementing the nurse staffing model, and how effective has it
regarding the patient’s needs?
Answer: The interviewer would mention how long the nurse staffing model has been implemented at
the facility. He/she would also mention how effective it has been in providing quality patient-centered
care. Evidence indicates that appropriate staffing is linked to healthier work environments, resulting in
nurses providing a higher proportion of care hours (compared to routine tasks) and better patient
outcomes (AACN, 2018).
Influence: Based on the interviewer’s response, I would consider the amount of time the model has
been set in place and implemented. I would also use the length of time the model has been
implementing and compare its effectiveness. By looking at the amount of time versus effectiveness, I
can conclude and see if the amount of time has led to a successful nurse staffing model or if it had been
