In the modern world, many companies are going global as a move to achieve growth
and sustainability (Wan, 2018). Amazon is a global technology firm which deals with cloud
computing, digital streaming, artificial intelligence and e-commerce. Due to its global scope,
Amazon adapts various strategies to prepare its workers for expatriate assignments.
Amazon Strategies
The first strategy is pre-assignment training. Amazon trains its employees on the
topics of local language, cultural practices and general information regarding the host country
(Amazon, 2021). This approach helps Amazon to achieve its goal by developing a connection
with foreign markets who feel like the company understands them. Having an effective
selection process to pick the right employee is the second strategy. Amazon usually picks
expats who possess skills like resilience, flexibility, emotional stability, interpersonal skills
and cultural sensitivity (Amazon, 2021). Having the wrong people could damage the entire
assignment. Therefore, this approach benefits Amazon by ensuring that the right people are

explaining how the tax system works and providing income protection. This approach helps
to keep the focus of expats on the details of the assignment and minimize distractions.
Focused employees are productive employees (Wan, 2018). This means that the approach
helps Amazon to build productive employees who will effectively achieve company goals.
Amazon also prepares expats for assignments by offering assistance programs for them and
