1 Running head: THE CIVIL WAR Civil War Events and Effects Name Institution Affiliation THE CIVIL WAR 2 Civil War Causative Issues and Results Question 1 Answers The Missouri Compromise on Slavery Missouri Compromise was a bid to find a balance between free and slave states. In 1820, Congress passed the Missouri Compromise when it allowed admission of Maine and Missouri as free and slave states respectively. The law barred slavery in the territory of Louisiana with the exclusion of Missouri. The same year, in the month of February, Senate both put together Missouri and Maine bills and allowed change to avert slavery prohibition in Louisiana, while excluding Missouri again. However, March 1 1820, marked the passing of a bill that marked admission of Missouri as free. However, the second of the same month, Congress voted to support slave trade in Missouri while the same congress voted against slavery in the territory of Louisiana. The president eventually signed Missouri Compromise in the sixth date of the third month 1820 (Spring & Dixon 1899). The 1850 Compromise that was led by Senator Douglas was the beginning of life for the Fugitive Slave Act, which gave cash to catchers of slave. California got admission without slavery ties. The Compromise also favored the North again by preventing enlargement of Texas. This was done by settling the Texas and New Mexico boundary conflict.
