The primary goal of the progressives was to improve the economy and social welfare. The group aimed at improving the efficiency of operations within the government. This included the efficiency in quality of service delivered to citizens, and fighting impunity and corruption. One of the significant roles of the progressives in economic reforms was to fight for the decline in child labor. Children were subjected to work in factories and farms, and most of the children were from poor backgrounds; hence they had no option but to accept being used by greedy employers. During the progressive era, many groups were formed to protest against child labor, economic crises, and social injustice in society.
