The term might have originated from Venice where it was used to describe the area in the city were the segregated and the restricted Jews lived (Pattillo, 2017). Ghettos exist in many cities and in some places it has the nickname, ‘the hood’, which is a colloquial slang meaning neighborhood. There are many ghetto versions across the world, with different groupings of people, different names and classifications. During the World War II, the Nazi Germany regime created ghettos in sections of cities and towns across Europe to confine and segregate Jews (Brinkmann, 2017). The ghettos existed in several types including closed ghettos, destruction ghettos, open ghettos, transit, and work. In 1939, the first ghetto was set up in Poland.
