Leadership Theories in Practice NSG/451 Version 2 1 University of Phoenix Material Leadership Theories in Practice Theory Name Application of Gardner’s Tasks Summary Definition Practice Example Trait Theories Trait theories identifies the personality traits that are used to distinguished non-leaders from leaders. The trait theories are based on the argument that leaders are “born and not made.” The trait theories generally suggest that leadership traits are innate traits that allows one to lead (Landis et al, 2014). According to trait theories, adaptability, assertiveness, persistence, and adaptability are example of traits. In the organization, I have witness managers using personality tests and other similar questionnaires to obtain insightful information into employee’s current capabilities with regards to certain traits that are deemed to be essential in leadership. Envisioning goals should be leveraged on the organization to identify traits that allows one to lead. Style Theories Style Theories believe that what leaders do is what matters the most as opposed to traits (Stanley, 2016). Style Theories are based on the notion that relationship behaviors and task behaviors determine the personality of a person.
