Do you favor debt forgiveness to all deveoping countries, the
pooret ones or none at all ?
Would you be willing to pay $20 a year more in personal
income taxes for debt forgiveness ? How about $200,00? How
about $2,000.00?
Solution
The debt forgiveness is done to achieve the objective of
putting the economy back on track and become more
productive. Though, it does no work without any sound plan,
necessary interventions and robust framework of initiatives.
Hence, rather than going for the debt forgiveness, there
should be a recovery plan for the poorest countries or other
developing countries to come out of slow down or build
infrastructure to fuel the economy. Later on, they can repay
the debt slowly on a very low interest rate basis. But, it will
give benefits such as economies of these countries not back
on track, not developing the tendency of free lunch (debt
that is forgiven in future) and a market ready to be catered
and realization of potential of the given geographical area.
So, direct debt forgiveness should not be done for any
country. Economy should work and assistance should be

offered to then in every ways to recover the economy and
repay.
I would only like to pay the additional tax, when I as a
business person or salaried employee get additional income
in the form of catering to the market of these countries. It
can be $20 or $200 or any amount, but I should gain the
additional income that should be more than the additional
tax paid in lieu of financial assistance and or debt
forgiveness. I never support the policy of my country
offering straight debt forgiveness, rather helping the
economy to work and recover from the slump.
