TITLE: USE AND CARE OF LABORATORY INCUBATOR SUBMITTED TO: MA’AM MARIA SUBMITTED FROM: HADIA ADREES SEMESTER: 7TH DEPARTMENT: UIMLT,FAHS,UOL SAP ID: 70089707 LABORATORY INCUBATOR: It is a heated insulated box used to grow and maintain microbiological or cell cultures. The incubator maintains optimal temperature, humidity and gaseous content of the atmosphere inside. Many incubators include a programmable timer which may set to cycle through different temperatures and humidity levels. The devices vary in size from tabletops to large systems the size of a cupboard. Principle: An incubator is based on the principle that microorganisms require a particular set up of parameters for their growth and development. All incubators are based on the concept that when organisms are provided with the optimal conditions of temperature, humidity, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, they grow and divide to form more organisms. Temperature is maintained by utilizing the heating and non heating cycles. SOME TYPES OF INCUBATOR: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Benchtop incubator. CO2 incubators. Cooled incubators. Shake incubators. Portable incubator. USE OF LABORATORY INCUBATORS: Incubators have a wide range of applications in various areas including cell cultures, pharmaceutical studies, hematological studies and biochemical studies.
