Four Ethical Theories Analysis for the Defendant
The consequential ethics, in this case, will judge whether the defendant is wrong or right
based on the consequences they may face. The defendant arguing that they are not responsible for
pre-exposing their residents to the hazardous environment, yet the defendant is liable for the
facility, gives room for consequential ethics to drive the case. However, the defendant is not
directly the cause of the hazardous condition; it is their position to create, direct, and maintain
safety for the residents.
Utilitarian ethics is all about creating an environment that is favorable for most of the
people in residence. From the scenario of the defendant, the state in which the kitchen lacked soap,
cockroaches, and worms in the food preparation area, and inadequate staffing is an accurate
indication that the defendant did not take the betterment of the majority at heart because that state
was a cause of unhappiness to the residents.
According to Ozyurek (2018), deontological ethics supports that doing something immoral
can be better. The defendant must have known the situation at the residence they administered. He
could argue that it was all part of awareness so that the facility would find more funding to better
the facility. Replacing broken glass windows requires money, and so does hiring additional staff.
With such financing, the defendant can manage the facility as The Iowa Department of Inspections
and Appeals standards dictate.
Nonconsequential ethics does not conform to the rightness or wrongness of the defendant's
administration consequences but rather the rightness or wrongness of their intrinsic administration
properties. The defendant is being fined a fifty-dollar daily fine for violation and regulations
survey. This is even more money going into the drain, which would have helped solve the residents'
