Abstract
Privacy and security of health information are essential concerns in the healthcare industry.
Technological advancements have led to the adoption of digital records in healthcare
organizations. Besides, the increased regulations for health data between physicians, patients,
health consolidation, and healthcare insurance companies are all directed to better information
security. This research paper surveys the existing knowledge and research literature on the safety
and privacy of health information. Information privacy and security in healthcare literature are
obtained from both information systems and published non-information systems disciplines. The
primary information systems disciplines used for this study include health informatics,
information systems. This study consists of a comprehensive overview of the most current
patient health information privacy and security research and an assessment of how privacy and
security concerns arise in the context of extensive healthcare data, and a discussion of potential
solutions.
