In turn, this causes continued pressure on the human skin which limits the flow of blood to the skin. In most cases, pressure ulcers occur on the skins covering bones which includes; hips, tailbones, heels, and ankles (Martin, 2017). Contributing factors are friction, shear, and pressure. The people at a higher risk of getting bedsores are those who stay in bed or chairs for long or those with a medical condition which limits their movements or their change in positions. Problem Need A problem of concern in the unit is pressure ulcers in vulnerable elderly. The complications of pressure ulcers increase with age and that some ulcers heal while other bedsores never heal entirely. In elderly patients, pressure ulcers are acquired during the first days of hospital stay. Short periods of immobility contribute primarily to the development of pressure ulcers in the elderly patients. Some seniors are full of life and are capable of doing many things on their own. However, vulnerable elders suffering from pressure ulcers are incapable of handling things. They often need help in moving up and about.
