Part I: Analysis and Interpretation
Interview Data:
1. Select an appropriate analytic procedure to code your interview data.
2. Code your data using a qualitative data analysis program or by hand in a separate
document. This process must identify: (1) codes and themes, (2) sub-codes, (3) categories,
and (4) subcategories.
a. Discuss your approach to coding the interview data. What procedure(s) did you select?
Justify your response.
The deductive method was utilized to code the interview transcription. Due to my
background in regulatory compliance, I have a great understanding of the issue of
lending discrimination in the modern age, as such a top down, or deductive
approach was utilized to code the transcripts from the interviews conducted. A
codebook was developed based on my knowledge of the problem and codes were
assigned to the language used by the respondents.
3. Examine the results of your analytic procedure(s).
a. Identify 2 or 3 initial assertions based on your interpretation of the interview data.
Discuss how you arrived at each assertion.
1. Lending discrimination is occurring
2. In many instances the lending institutions are aware of the problem
3. The employees who are aware of the issue are afraid of retaliation
from their supervisors should the issue be thoroughly examined
In both the of the interviews the respondents alluded to fear of reprisal from their
employers should the information they disclosed was revealed and tied to them. They
both spoke of a culture of understanding and secrecy of the issues within their
respective offices, and that while they hoped the matter would come to light, neither has
taken steps to do so.
b. Synthesize your initial assertions into a key assertion about the central phenomenon in
your mock study.
Lending discrimination has evolved in the modern day to continue to exist despite the
government’s attempt to curtail the issue. What was once and obvious and overt act has
