What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is considered as when one presents the idea of someone else as his own, it is
considered as literacy theft, plagiarism can be accidental as well as intentional and is considered as the
serious violation of code from the perspective of student and the universities impose different kind of
penalties on the student for the same, i.e. higher plagiarism is a high unethical work done by the student,
some of the major examples which results in plagiarism are: Copying the phrases directly from a source
and not using any citation of quotation mark for the same, when one omits intext citations, when the
words are rearranged without any major changes across the content, rephrasing the content without
using a citation or quotation marks.
What is not Plagiarism?
According to Grossberg, 2004, ‘When the student paraphrases the document correctly and
summarizes the information and do in-text citations at the end of the paragraph then that part is not
considered as plagiarism’. The student also needs to use appropriate quotations at the end of the work. It
is important for the student to use their own words when writing a paper so as to avoid plagiarism.
Avoiding Plagiarism
According to Suarez, 2001, ‘Two of the most common errors which results in plagiarism is
missing citations for information obtained from a source or missing quotation marks for a direct
quotation. When the student does not devote appropriate time in doing and assignment and does not
follow the appropriate steps to do an assignment at that point of time the assignment and the work is
considered to be plagiarized. Avoid using too many direct quotations, even if you include citations. The
bulk of the paper should contain your original ideas supported by information from sources. Using too
many direct quotations causes plagiarism because the majority of ideas in a paper are not your own. To
