Professional Educator Code of Ethics
The national code of ethics to educators is guided by two principles i.e., commitment to the
student and commitment to the profession (NEA, 2020). Commitment to the student ensures that
educators do not restrain students from pursuing learning, deny the student access to varying
points of view. It also restrains educators from distorting subject matter, exposing the student to
embarrassment. More so it deals with the issue of race, color, and other cases of discrimination.
It thus prohibits the student from undertaking activities that deny benefits to other students and
grant unwanted advantages to another student (NEA, 2020). It also prohibits educators from
exposing any student information. The second principle on profession ensures that educators do
not engage in anything that will distort their image to the public as it will destroy the trust and
the sense of responsibility within the profession(NEA, 2020). It has prohibited educators from
engaging in some activities that might create public trust such as giving false information among
others.
On the other hand, MCEE is guided by five principles which are: responsibility to the profession,
responsibility to professional competence, responsibility to students, responsibility to the school
community, and responsible and ethical use of the technology(MCEE). The first three principles
are aimed at strengthening the nation's code of ethics(MCEE). For the school community, the
idea is to forester a good relationship with the parents or the guardians and also create an
effective relationship with colleges. On the part of ethically using technology, the idea is to use
IT safely and securely ensuring that privacy is maintained and also making sure that student data
is not breached. Lastly, it’s also involving safeguarding the school data and ensuring privacy.
