Running head: ELDER ABUSE 1 Elder Abuse Name Institution ELDER ABUSE 2 Elder Abuse Elder abuse is a repeated or single act including inappropriate action that happens within a relationship of trust that causes distress or even harms to a person aged 65 years and above. Elder abuse is a problem of the past and not a new phenomenon as many people think (Dong, 2015). However, scholars are now gaining interest in examining the issue of elder abuse in the society. Many reasons explain why the elders have had to suffer in silence and there is a sociological theory that help one understand why the conflict persist as well as the solution to it. Most seniors feel vulnerable and at the mercy of the people taking care of them. Every passing day brings in some health or psychological problems as their energy wears out. Unlike before when they were energetic and would do everything for themselves the elderly have now to involuntarily rely on others even for the most basic things such as going to the loo.
