1 Running head: FAR DUTY DAY LIMITS FAR Duty Day Limits Name: Institution: Course Code: FAR DUTY DAY LIMITS 2 Introduction The ‘constitution’ of aviation matters in America, the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) strives to regulate the business of flying in America. It sets the standards, at least, as far as safety is concerned for pilots, aircraft personnel and the public. Per the FAR, safety in flying is almost synonymous with efficiency, an efficiency that is the focus of the professional practice requirements for airline operators. One of the areas actively addressed by FARs is fatigue and how to mitigate the same. The three main FAR parts, (part 91, part 121 and part 135) all have specific regulations and requirements, concerning duty day requirements, resting period and the like for all pilots and crewmembers alike. Unique FAR Part 91 Duty Day Limits Part 91 stipulates each aviation assignment must provide for at least 10 hours of resting during the 24-hour period after the completion of the task. Crewmembers and pilots alike are not to exceed 500 hours of service in any calendar quarter. Further, they should not exceed 800 hours in any two consecutive calendar quarters and 1,400 hours in any calendar year. Crew members should not exceed 8 hours of service per day for a crew consisting of one pilot and 10 hours for a team comprised of two pilots ("Federal Aviation Regulation Sec. 91.1057 - Flight, duty and rest time requirements: All crewmembers.", 2018).
