“Hall of Bulls” Lascaux II
The artwork is called “Hall of Bulls” Lascaux II, a replica because the original cave was
closed to the public in 1963. The cave was shut down because visitor’s breath and sweat
produced carbon dioxide and humidity, which would have damaged the artwork. In 1983, a
replica of the Lascaux cave was built nearby, attracting tens of thousands of tourists each year.
Those who lived in the period from 28,000 BCE to 10,000 BCE had great hands making things,
and they were humans from the Upper Palaeolithic age. The magnificent cave paintings at
Lascaux, France, are 11 feet 6 inches long and are the oldest surviving evidence of early people's
artistic expression, painting.
The bulls in the painting are portrayed in what has come to be known as "twisted
perspective." Their bodies are depicted in profile, but the horns are seen from a more frontal
perspective. Sometimes the pictures are completely linear, with a line painted to outline the
