Small Cell Carcinoma
Small cell carcinoma is a kind of cancer condition which usually results in an individual's
lungs (Chevalier et al.,2020). It can also occur in other parts of the body, such as the
gastrointestinal and the prostate parts. The survival rate of people with Small cell carcinoma
varies depending on sex. For instance, women have a higher survival rate of 4.3%, while men
have a 3.5% survival rate.
Ectopic Hormone
Ectopic refers to the condition where an individual’s body synthesizes hormones from the
wrong tissues (Kamenicky et al.,2019). The tissues usually are not designed to produce
hormones. Research has revealed that majorly the polypeptide hormones are extensively
distributed in the normal tissues. A number of the non-neuroendocrine tissues and tumors can
also lead to polypeptide hormones encompassing multidirectional differentiation. This implies
that the endocrine tissues can secrete a hormone that was not designed to secrete in the first
place.
Ectopic and Paraneoplastic
Ectopic secretion of hormones can thus be deduced as the feature of endocrine tumors. The
inappropriate production of hormones by the tissues that are not originally designed to produce
the hormones. For instance, pancreatic islet cell carcinomas have been reported to be usually
stimulating the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). The pituitary gland is the usual secreter of
the ACTH in an individual's body. Non-endocrine tissues can also be responsible for the
production of hormones. A good example is that inappropriate ACTH production is considered a
characteristic of small cell carcinoma.
Paraneoplastic endocrine symptoms refer to the same concept. Paraneoplastic feature occurs
due to the ectopic secretion of hormones by varied tumors (Daskalakis et al.,2019). An example
